Explore Australia’s island state poised at the edge of the world, where the Southern, Indian and Pacific Oceans collide. Here pristine World Heritage wilderness and national parks teem with native wildlife and open-spaces. Tasmania’s natural beauty sees rugged mountain ranges culminate in soaring coastal cliffs and crescent-shaped beaches carved by the elements. Amidst this pristine, natural backdrop Tasmania’s intriguing colonial history is underpinned by compelling convict heritage and historic sites. Shaped by its climate, fertile pastures and verdant valleys, it produces a bounty of world-renowned food, wine and artisanal beers and spirits, making a Tasmanian expedition cruise an experience for all the senses.

I’ve been producing travel programs for television for more than 20 years and one of my very best experiences has been Tasmania by sea…

The island has a unique and spectacular coastline featuring rock formations that can be billions of years old which can only be seen from a ship.

It’s a wild and rugged place where the swells can reach ten metres and there’s nothing between you and the South Pole. It’s very exciting in that sense.

What I really love about Tasmania is how pristine the natural environment is…

The air smells fresher than anywhere I’ve been and it’s clean waters and green forests are teeming with wildlife which we could see and appreciate with the help of specialist guest lecturers who are experts in their fields.

It’s also a world famous destination for hiking where you can safely enjoy a genuine and remote wilderness experience specifically tailored to your ambition and capability.

The food in Tasmania is wonderful too and the island is dotted with artisan farmers markets, cool climate wineries and interesting galleries that can be explored on your daily excursions from the ship to the mainland.

I cant wait to come back!
