Daniela Matheus-Holland

Expedition Leader & Master Reef Guide

What does my role involve?

My role involves being an expedition guide for guests who come aboard one of the expedition ships in the Coral Expeditions fleet.  I organise the itinerary including exciting activities such as snorkelling, hiking and kayaking. I also provide interpretation on the wildlife, rainforest plants and marine ecology that guests find themselves immersed in on a Coral Expeditions adventure.

What is my favourite destination or experience?

Choosing a favourite destination or experience is very difficult as there are so many places that we travel to! You also never know what wildlife might decide to show up.  Some experiences that stand out include being surrounded by a super-pod of dolphins during a Glass Bottom Boat Tour at Ribbon Reef 3 on the Great Barrier Reef. Others include swimming alongside a manta ray at Nathan Reef or discovering the incredible coral formations in Karimanjawa, Indonesia.  Regularly visiting Cooktown has allowed me to meet the traditional owners of the area and form friendships with the local people who run the Aboriginal Art Centre in Cooktown. Doing the Master Reef Course also provided me with the privilege of meeting the traditional owners.
