Meet Danah Leary

Growing up in Tasmania I was lucky enough to discover a deep fascination within plants from a very early age. This passion started out with botanical drawings, leading towards endless learning and wonder. I vividly remember going to work with my father and exploring the forests with him, always asking questions and fascinated by the native environment and how everything is interconnected.

Through both travelling and continually adopting new outdoor activities, my love for the natural environment has grown exponentially! In the last two years I have been working as an Ecologist around Tasmania, while also guiding on the Overland. I am hoping to make my way into conservation and regenerative practices with a focus on preserving the intact forests we still have standing.

On the 10-day guided tour from the remote Southwest, across to the rugged East coast of Tasmania, we will delve deep into just how ancient many of the species are which inhabit this island, along with the evolutionary traits they have developed over time and just how these came into play. We will also talk about many threatened species, some of which we might even be lucky enough to encounter. There will be a focus on native flora, fauna, marine species, fungi, insects, geology and the intrinsic connection between all these things. The intricate symbiotic relationship between fungi and plants is something which I will talk about throughout the trip.

If any of this sparks your, interest please join me on the Coastal Treks of Tasmanian. I would love to take you back in time to look closely at the evolutionary trajectory that the world has taken through plants and their connection to everything, including us.
